I just got word that my stepmother (my long-deceased father's second wife) died yesterday.

BETTY F. WRAY (nee CROWDER) Ogden Dunes, Indiana Betty F. Wray, age 75, a long time resident of Ogden Dunes, passed at her home on Sunday, January 11, 2009. She was born in French Lick, Indiana on May 19, 1933, the daughter of Hobert and Elva Crowder. Betty was a graduate of Horace Mann High School, Indiana University, and received a Masters degree in history from Valparaiso University. Betty had lived in California for many years and was employed by UPA cartoon studios. She was married to Perry C. Wray in April 1967 in Ogden Dunes. Betty was a retired teacher who taught school for over 25 years at Barker Middle School in Michigan City and in the Portage School system. She taught at risk students, special education students, honor's students, was a certified member of Operation Snowflake, a volunteer for CASA, and assisted in a program for Peer Pressure. She was a member of the Indiana Retired Teacher's Association, past president of the Ogden Dunes Prime Timers, a member of the Ogden Dunes Women's Club, the Red Hat Society, the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations, and was a past president and chaplain of the Alpha Delta Kappa teacher's sorority. Betty is survived by her loving family: son, Joseph A. (Annette) Wray, Portage; daughter, Catherine M. (Mike) Tully, Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren, Robert Perry Tully and Lindsay N. Wray, sons Perry R. Wray, Snowflake, AZ, and Douglas Wray, Grotten, CT; brother, Charles (Elizabeth) Crowder, Valparaiso; sister, Alta Marie Keith, French Lick; and other loving family and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Perry C. Wray in 1996. A visitation for Betty Wray will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at Rees Funeral Home Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 16, 2009 at Rees Funeral Home with Reverend Robert Leach, officiating. Burial will be at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville. Memorials in Betty's memory may be made to the Independent Cat Society or the humane society of your choice.
